At Saraswathi Central School, we maintain clear guidelines regarding student absences to ensure that the learning process remains uninterrupted and students remain accountable for their attendance. Parents and students are expected to follow these guidelines diligently:

It is the responsibility of absentee students to ensure that their parents have entered the relevant absence information and signed the student almanac. Failure to do so may result in the parent being called to school to take their child back home.

In cases of absence for more than two consecutive days due to medical reasons, a medical certificate and prescription must be attached to the leave application.

There is no provision for half-day leave. If a student is unwell, they should not be sent to school, even on exam or test days.

Students will be marked absent if taken home by parents, guardians, or authorized persons during school hours, regardless of whether it is an exam or test day. The student will receive a zero for any missed exam on that day.

A student returning to school after suffering from an infectious or contagious disease must present a doctor’s fitness certificate allowing them to resume school.

Students suffering from the following diseases must observe the prescribed quarantine period before returning to school:

  • Chicken Pox: Till the scabs fall completely, not more than 15 days.
  • Cholera: Till the child has completely recovered, not more than 15 days.
  • Measles: Two weeks after the rash disappears, not more than 10 days.
  • Mumps: Until the swelling has gone, about one month (not more than 15 days).
  • Whooping Cough: Until the swelling has gone, about one month (not more than 20 days).
  • Hepatitis: Till the doctor certifies recovery, not more than 20 days.

Students requiring medical attention during school hours may be sent to the school infirmary by the teacher concerned. The teacher must enter the nature of the complaint and sign the "School Infirmary Record" section of the almanac.

Except for emergencies, students are not permitted to visit the infirmary unless an entry has been made in the almanac by a teacher.

In cases of serious illness or emergencies, parents will be promptly informed and may be requested to come to school to take their ward home if necessary.

Repeated absence without prior notice or unexplained absence without a written application for more than six consecutive days may result in the student's name being struck off the school rolls.

All students are expected to attend school on the first day after vacations. Absence on this day will attract strict disciplinary action unless supported by a valid reason.

Students must maintain at least 90% attendance each term to be eligible to sit for the end-of-term assessments. Exceptions to this rule will only be made on genuine medical grounds and at the sole discretion of the Principal.

By adhering to these guidelines, students and parents ensure that the school environment remains structured and that students meet their academic obligations in a responsible manner.
